Movin' On
The Lyrics

Big Wheels
(J.C. Flyer)

You know the times that we live
keep on changin'
And I feel like my time has
come and gone
But before I fly the flag
of surrender
There's still one more person here
I'm gunnin' for

Cos those
Big wheels are turnin'
And the home fires
still burnin'
But there's a feelin' in my heart
that keeps yearnin'
To be movin' on
To be movin' on

Every time I look at you
you turn the other way
You know I remember better times
perhaps I've outgrown my stay
Hey that was then and this is now
and here we are today
Because tomorrow I'll be on that highway
another girl will be in your place

When I look back
on what went down
it makes me want to cry
To recall that door slam yesterday
you know I felt like dyin'
But I'll get by
I always do
I hope you understand
'Cos tomorrow I'll be hittin' that highway
another girl will be in my cab

Cos those
Big wheels are turnin'
and the home fires
still burnin'
But there's a feeling in my heart
that keeps yearnin'
To be movin' on
To be movin' on

Outlaws On The Run
(J.C. Flyer)

My daddy was an outlaw
I am an outlaw's son
He taught me how to throw a rope
and be handy with a gun
But then one day the sheriff came
and took my dad away
"Your daddy was a horse thief"
I later saw him hanging from a tree

So on that trail I ramble
just a rider in the rain
I'm thinking 'bout my daddy
and I'm thinkin' about the pain
When on the horizon comes a stagecoach
and it was carrying some gold
I'm gonna making a killing in my life
and I'm gonna do it before I get old

And as that stagecoach passes
it was over pretty fast
With all the gold I got that day
My money's gonna last
Until I rode into Dodge City
A shocking sight I did see
It was my face upon a poster
The words WANTED above my name

Because I am just an outlaw on the run
And they say I have the fastest gun
Not another man do I fear
But I wonder how many years
That I have 'cos I'm an outlaw on the run

I should have high-tailed it out of town right then
And I would have except for one thing
And that was a beautiful lady friend
The one who wore my ring
Her name was Myra Adams and singing was her game
She had the face of an angel
She drove a thousand men insane.
So like a fool I dropped in on her
To say my last goodbyes
Before heading out again
To give that trail a try
But as I left sweet Myra's house
The sheriff I did see
I remember what he did to dad
Was what he had in store for me
Because I am just an outlaw on the run

I ran into an alley
My six shooters blazing fire
When I felt a bullet rip through my leg
I'm just glad it didn't go any higher
When I turned around I saw that sheriff
He was lying in a pool of blood
I was thinking how proud my daddy would be
With what his only son had done
Because my daddy was an outlaw
I am an outlaw's son
He taught me how to throw a rope
And be handy with a gun
And now I've avenged my daddy's death
with the sheriff with the fastest gun
And I ride off into the sunset
Just an outlaw on the run

Alone With The Wind
For The Vagabond Poet
(J.C. Flyer)

I didn't know where I was going
I didn't know if I'd be back again
All those things that I should have been knowing
Didn't mean that much to me

The sound of the wind blowing through the trees
Recalling now that sweet summer breeze
Me and my daddy by the fishing hole
Looking back it doesn't seem that long ago to me

But now I'm alone with the wind
And I don't know if I'll be back again
To say I didn't love you
Would be a sin
But now I'm alone with the wind

Long Hard Road
For Terry Dolan
(J.C. Flyer)

It's a long hard road
That we're traveling on
And the path is rocky
I didn't know where I was goin'
But since I met you
I now feel strong
And I don't mind goin'
Down that long hard road

We've both seen trouble
Nearly all of our lives
We had a taste of the hard times
Before we opened our eyes
But we both know better
We can see through the disguise
We're both wiser persons
Who have the will to survive

And we're not afraid to drive
And we're not afraid to die
The sorrow that we knew could have
Ruined our lives
But we had the strength and courage
To survive

It's a long hard road
That we're traveling down
We think we know where we're going
But we're not sure where we're bound
Now we're at the crossroads
We can turn it around
And make it down this hard road
With all the love that we've found

Snowing in New England
(J.C. Flyer)

It's snowing in New England tonight
and I'm thinking of you
The weatherman spoke of a blizzard
I hope you're getting through
Sometimes when that cold wind blows
I get that feeling too
But it's snowing in New England tonight
and I'm thinking of you

The fog is rolling in tonight
while I'm thinking of you
Those old foghorns are a blowing
beacon lights are trying to shine through
When I look back now I know
there were things I didn't do
But the fog is rolling in tonight
while I'm thinking of you

The weather changes fast babe
there are clouds out on the bay
It's raining in my heart girl
and there are words that I can't say

Now there's a hurricane wailing tonight
while I'm thinking of you
If I can just begin to tell you
what my heart was going through
But this old cold wind reminds me
of those moments that I spent with you
Now there's a hurricane wailing tonight
while I'm thinking of you

Do you remember that time babe
when we were down in San Diego Bay?
With thunderheads on the horizon
But a rainbow was on its way

But it's snowing in New England tonight
and I find myself thinking of you
The snow is blowing up and down the east coast
and my heart is freezing too
They just closed the Saw Mill River Parkway
even chains won't get you through
'Cos it's snowing in New England tonight
and I'm thinking of you

Drive All Night
(J.C. Flyer)

You know the Arizona desert gleams up
to the sun and the sky
All the creatures in the desert are tough
they have to be to survive
A man and his options are few
but honey that was before I met you
I just live to see your smiling face
Tonight

Drive all night
I'll have to drive all night
I'm just thinking 'bout you by my side
and holding you tight
Drive all night
I'll have to drive all night
I'll drive it everywhere in this world to see your smiling face
Tonight

I've got my pedal to the metal
and I'm pushing it with all of my might
You're someone who keeps me going
you're the fuel to my sight
I'm coming up to a speed zone ahead
it's been a week since I slept in a bed
But I'll finally see your smiling face
Tonight

Well I'm roaring down the highway
with only you in my sight
I've got to get to Clovis, California
before day turns to night
The road's an evil mother you know
but when I get there my pain won't show
Because I'll finally see your smiling face
Tonight

Thousand Trails
For Floyd "Red Crow" Westerman
(J.C. Flyer)

Our scouts left at dawn
heading westward
They rode for three days straight
on stallions into the sun
They cut a path right through
Indian Territory
And this is how our country was begun

Our soldiers griped as they made their way
Into Wyoming
As we met the fight that our side had begun
When they said the death toll was over a hundred
They were wrong
We left three thousand braves lying in the prairie sun

But we have high hopes
For the future
And there is no turning backwards
Into the past
We will soar
just like eagles in the night
On our journey down the path
of a thousand trails

When our leaders start the wars
They send our young men
And it is their blood that sheds
It's our sons!
But to think of all the death we've caused
And destruction
This is the path our country's followed
From day one

Still we have high hopes
For the future
And there is no turning backwards
Into the past
We will soar
Just like eagles in the night
On our journey down the path of a thousand trails
On our journey down the path of a thousand trails

California
(For Miss Audrey)
(J.C. Flyer)
When I found that you had left me
I went to take a drive
My engine just kept running
And this country came alive
I woke up in the desert
Under a Joshua Tree
And all I ever wanted
Suddenly came through to me

Well I spent some time in Shasta
And you know there's power there
So I charged up all my batteries
And nurtured on clean air
A thousand times I was reminded
On just why I'm living here
A man's a man you see
And there's no place I'd rather be
Than California

You can talk about the Berkshires and the
Adirondacks too
You can tell me about the Rockies and the
Smokey Mountains as well
I've been up in the Tetons and I know that
country well
But they're just not the same
And my heart will always remain
In California

The sunsets on the Pacific
Just take the breath out of me
And driving down that coast highway
There is no place I'd rather be
But when you say that it's not happening here
You know I don't agree
I know you had your reasons
But they made no sense to me

The valley in Yosemite
Was made with God's own hands
After all the times we spent up there
I still don't understand
Perhaps I may not ever know
The reason or the plan
But it doesn't matter much to me
Because I'm living naturally
In California

California's got the energy
You can feel it in the air
We've got the mighty earthquakes
So we live here if we dare
We've got the high Sierra's
And our redwood can't compare
We're living wild and free
It's the only way to be
In California

So when I found that you had left me
I went to take a drive
My engine just kept running and
This country came alive
I woke up in the desert
Under a Joshua Tree
And all I ever wanted
Suddenly appeared to me

You can talk about the Berkshires
And the Adirondacks too
You can tell me about the Rockies
And the Smokey Mountains as well
I've been up in the Tetons
And I know that country too
But they're just not the same
And my heart will always remain
In California

But they're just not the same
And my home will always remain
In California

Memories of You
(For David Nelson & Sandy Rothman)
(J.C. Flyer)

I was driving down the highway
On a road to who knows where
When I stopped into a roadhouse
To hear some music and drink some beer
There was a lady on the bandstand
Singing a lonesome song
She reminded me of you I guess
When you were young and strong
Because the memories of you
They still play on my mind
And I'll never forget you
No matter how long the time
It seems the things I want the most
Just vanishes like smoke
But not the memories of you upon my mind

To say I think of you every day
Certainly would be no lie
I think about the laughter
And I think about the good times
But I guess the feelings not mutual
Because you haven't called in quite some time
So I wrote this song to tell you
That you're still on my mind

Because the memories of you
They still play on my mind
And I'll never forget you
No matter how long the time
It seems the things I want the most
Just vanishes like smoke
But not the memories of you upon my mind

So as I'm driving down that highway
On that road to who knows where
And there is no one beside me
To enjoy the good times and good cheer
But you know I still have the memories
Of better times that didn't last
So I'll think of you on this journey
And of all the good times past

Because the memories of you
They still play on my mind
And I'll never forget you
No matter how long the time
It seems the things I want the most
Just vanishes like smoke
But not the memories of you upon my mind

I'll cherish those memories
That still play on my mind

Red Light Green Light
(J.C. Flyer)

Red Light Green Light
I'm waiting to see
I love this girl
But she don't love me
I want this woman
If you know what I mean
But I'm still here waiting
For her light to turn green

I'm rolling seven, then eleven
On a Saturday night
I'm doing OK, you know she's
Looking all right
I want your love
Need your love
I've got it in sight
But I'm still here waiting at that
Red light
I said I'm stuck here waiting at your
Red light

You know I'd like to see
The real you inside
I'm not pushing babe
It's up to you to decide
So come on in
And lets go for a ride
I've got my engines revving for your
Green Light
I said I've got my engines revving for your
Green Light
You know my engines are ready for your
Green Light

The Ghost of K.C. Bishop
(J.C. Flyer)

There are lots of legends from back then
Around the civil war time
And the stories of all the brave men
Who died on either side of that line
One's name was K.C. Bishop
He worked his daddy's dairy farm like me
Until he was asked to serve his country
Then he rode with Robert E. Lee

K.C. rode hard and did his duty
Until he met his fate one day
It was outside of Blacksburg, Virginia
Where a cannon ball blew him away
That's the way my uncle told it
As we sat on the porch one night
He said of one time during a full moon
When he almost died of fright

He saw the ghost of  K.C. Bishop
"He was alive like you and me"
"He wore his uniform so proudly"
"He wanted to come home you see"

Well I didn't think much of legends
Until I saw for myself one night
I saw the ghost of K.C. Bishop
He was marching with his rifle by his side
I saw the ghost of K.C. Bishop
I saw a man of nineteen years old
He once spoke to me on the back road
He said "Friend I just want to go home."

So if you're walking down that back road
In Blacksburg, Virginia some night
And if you come upon young K.C.
Shine him a guiding light
Because the ghost of K.C. Bishop
Is still searching for his way
In search of battles that he once lost
But will win back someday
Because the ghost of K.C. Bishop
Is still searching for his way
In search of battles that he once lost
But will win back some day
We will win them back someday

Foreign Soil
(For Rick Danko & Don Graham)
(J.C. Flyer)

I'm just a stranger in this town
With no familiar faces here
To be found
With a language that is new
And all of my so-called friends
They are few
I'm out here on foreign soil

I woke up today on another shore
To find myself walking through another door
All the faces that I see
They are blank
As I search this town in vain
For an American bank
I'm out here on foreign soil

I'm on foreign soil
Not a person do I know
I don't understand why you brought me here
Just to let me go
So just lead me to your home
Don't leave me here alone
On Foreign Soil

So as I walk the streets all alone
As I try to follow the footsteps
Back to your home
Don't fulfill my greatest fear
Please don't you leave me here
On foreign soil

Back To You
(J.C. Flyer)

Drivin' down that road tonight
Tryin' to get back to you
And you're at home
With your light still on
And another love that's new
But as I drive down that road tonight
All I have are memories of you
And as I drive in the darkness all alone
I'm just trying to get through

What were the reasons now I still can't recall
That caused me to be all-alone
But whatever they were
It doesn't matter now
Cos I'm trying, still trying to get
Back to you.

So I'm driving down that road tonight
Praying I get through to you
And I'm hoping that your love light's on
As I drive back to you

What were they reasons now I still can't recall
That caused me to be all alone
But what ever they were
It doesn't matter now
Cos I'm trying, still trying to get
Back to you

Towards The Sun
(For John Cipollina)
(J.C. Flyer)

When I woke up this morning
much to my surprise
I did not recognize your face
and I saw darkness in your eyes
And to this day I ask myself
and try to wonder why
About why you changed
and rearranged
I asked the spirit in the sky
In the sky

But when I walk out from the darkness
and into the sun
And when I get to thinking about
just what you had done
The circumstances that now have me out on the run
And so I must take to the highway
And drive towards the sun

When I came back from Michigan
the gypsy woman spoke to me
She told me of my future
and of my destiny
The things that I just couldn't understand
suddenly came clear to me
And now I'm back on my feet again
my eyes are opened wide to see
Wide to see

But when I walk out from the darkness
and into the sun
And when I get to thinking about
just what you have done
The circumstances that now have me under the gun
And so I must take to the highway
And drive towards the sun

Now I'm on that lonesome road
And doing the best that I can
But the wicked things that happened
What a woman can do to a man
So let this be a testament
To all throughout this land
About the evil things that happen
When a women turns on her man
Turns on her man

But when I walk out form the darkness
And into the sun
And when I get to thinking about
Just what you have done
The hands of fate are now turning
New life has begun
And so I must take to the highway and
Drive towards the sun

Goin' Home
(J.C. Flyer)

I remember it now
As it were yesterday
Although it was many years ago
The pain and sorrow
That we all felt then
Really took on its toll
The thing I remember most 'bout my dad
was the way he'd sing to me
he'd strum his guitar
with a big wide smile
I knew he did it
All for me

We headed out
from Boston town
on a Sunday afternoon
I didn't know then
like I do know now
that we wouldn't be back real soon
My mama did cry
as we took to the sky
as the stars were heading west
But I remember his songs
and I remember his smiles
and that's how I remember him best

We are goin' home
Big Bird's gonna take us away
We are goin' home
I haven't seen my daddy since that day

I'm thinking 'bout dad
as I'm sitting here
by the San Francisco Bay
My mamma told me
that our times were hard
and that's why we went away
I wish I could tell him
how I love him so
if he were only here today
But I remember what my mom told me
As we were flyin' away

We are goin' home
Big Bird's gonna take us away
We are goin' home
I haven't seen my daddy since that day

We are goin' home
My momma came and took me away
We are goin' home
I haven't seen my daddy since that day

I haven't seen my daddy since that day
